This is definatly an issue that needs your attention. Here are our recommendations in more detail:
We believe that the most beneficial action for COC’s students is to have a set location as to where the vendors should be permitted. An ideal place would be in the Honor Grove. There is plenty of space where students walk by in their free time. This would allow solicitors to get the students full and undivided attention.
We polled several students and asked them all the same questions. Here are the questions and responses.
1) Have you ever been approached on campus by a solicitor?
The COC Policy for the daily vendor program from the student development center states how the commercial sales should be handled, the time, place and manner regulation they need to follow, the commercial activities they could participate in, and the policy violations.
In commercial sales they regulate what can be solicited on campus, how they can distribute their information and the content of their information. And they also need to fill out a permit before they can begin Solicit ting.
1) Certain days and time of the week should be set aside for vendors to sell.
2) Assign a location for the vendors:

Negative
The negative effects of soliciting can be found all around the campus. Students are being approached when they dont want to be. It causes them to be late to class and creates frustration which distracts the student from their studies. Solicitation can also hold up faculty and students from getting to other destinations, like the parking lot, or even the cafeteria.
Many of the solicitors are credit card company's who want personal information and promise "free money". Since the majority of students already have student loans, it is not appropriate for these companies to prey on struggling students.
Lacey-
In April of 2007, I was approached by a man selling knives. This particular company has been to the campus numerous times. He stopped me and asked if I would like to earn extra money. Intrigued I said yes. Then we went into a long persuasive talk about why I should join the company. After listening to him talk I politely said I wasn't interested but yet he still pushed his point. Trying to remain polite I continued to tell him no and finally getting tired of his persistent speech I walked away. After saying no the first time the man wasted 5 minutes of his and my time. Time that I could have used to make it to class on time instead of being 5 minutes late, and time that he could have bugged someone else and possibly gotten an actual sale.

Itroduction
Allow me to take you back to your college days. It's 11:35 in the afternoon your class starts in 5 minutes in the C building. You look ahead as the C building comes into view and you realize that the only thing standing between you and your class is the short walk from the Upper south parking lot pass the Java & Jazz, in between the I and the M Building, to arrive at the C building. You take a sigh of relief because you think you can make it in time. Then she stops you, a solicitor, asking you if you need extra income, a new job, a massage and facial, financial aid, or resume help. You kindly refuse and attempt to walk around her, she stops you again and increases her persuasion skills. With a bit of effort, and time, you get away from her as politely as possible. You start to walk a little quicker now that you have wasted precious time, then he stops you, and asks you if you have ever thought about a job in the army, navy, or police academy. You again kindly refuse, and again he wont take no for an answer. With a little more effort and a lot more time you get around him. You finally get to class 5 minutes late, the only seat is right in front behind the projector, the teacher has already taken role and marked you tardy. Solicitors on campus is a big problem that the students have to deal with on a daily basis.

Observations
Thursday May 3rd- At 11:25 Workblast.com gave away free highlighters and flyers advertising the company by the Art Gallery. The woman handing out the flyers was not dressed in professional attire and looked as if she was a college student. It felt as if she was using her sex appeal to advertise the company.
Wednesday May 9th- Around 12:00 Vector Marketing Corporation was stationed by Java n Jazz. Their representative was stopping students asking if they earned enough money. When students said no the man went in to a long explanation on why selling knives from Vector was good money making scheme. Even when the students said no he continued to ramble on why selling Knives door to door was a sure way to earn extra money.
